About the Conference

As part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (established in 1951), the Institute is organizing the International Conference on Multiphysics, Multifunctional and Multiscale Phenomena in Mechanics (MMMPM 2026) from December 17 to 20, 2026, at the IIT Kharagpur campus

Modern engineering challenges increasingly demand solutions that transcend traditional single-physics, single-scale, or single-function approaches. MMMPM 2026 provides a platform for researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to present and discuss cutting-edge advances in understanding, modeling, and engineering multi-physics, multifunctional, and multiscale phenomena across solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and biomechanics. The program will include plenary and keynote lectures by leading international and national experts, invited talks, contributed papers, and vibrant poster sessions, providing ample opportunities for networking, collaboration, and knowledge exchange...

Thematic Areas of MMMPM 2026

Fluid-Structure Interaction
Explores the complex coupling between moving fluids and deformable structures. This theme covers numerical and experimental studies of phenomena like flow-induced vibrations, aeroelasticity, and their applications in offshore and aerospace engineering.
Multiphase Flow
This area explores how material behavior evolves across different length and time scales, from atomic interactions to large engineering systems.
Composites and Multifunctional Materials
Focuses on the design, manufacturing, and characterization of advanced composite materials. Discussions will highlight materials that integrate structural integrity with additional functionalities like sensing, actuation, or thermal management.
Micro and Nano Mechanics
Investigates mechanical behavior at the smallest scales, where surface effects and molecular interactions dominate. Topics include nanostructured materials, 2D materials, and the bridge between atomistic simulations and continuum mechanics.
Failure and Damage Mechanics
Dedicated to understanding how materials and structures degrade and fail under various loading conditions. It covers fatigue, fracture, creep, and the development of predictive models for structural health and life assessment.
Microfluidics
Focuses on the behavior, precise control, and manipulation of fluids at the sub-millimeter scale. Applications include lab-on-a-chip devices, biomedical diagnostics, and heat transfer enhancement in micro-electronic cooling.
Impact and Crashworthiness
Analyzes the response of materials and structures to high-strain-rate loading. This theme is critical for automotive safety, ballistic protection, and the design of energy-absorbing structures for extreme environments.
Biomechanics and Biofluid Mechanics
Applies mechanical principles to biological systems. Topics include the mechanics of cells and tissues, blood flow dynamics, and the design of prosthetic devices and bio-inspired engineering solutions.
Energy Harvesting and Storage
Explores mechanical and material innovations for a sustainable future. Descriptions include piezoelectric and triboelectric energy harvesters, as well as the mechanical integrity and thermal stability of batteries and supercapacitors.
Advanced Simulation and Modelling Techniques
Covers cutting-edge computational methods, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Molecular Dynamics (MD), and AI/Machine Learning-driven models used to predict and optimize complex mechanical systems.
Multifunctional Materials and Metamaterials
Showcases engineered materials with properties not found in nature, such as negative refractive indices or acoustic bandgaps. This theme focuses on programmable and reconfigurable materials for smart engineering applications.
